How It Works
There is a healthy environment of collaboration between SpiderPlow and the manufacturers of pipe and equipment. This free exchange of information enables continuous improvement of the operational process, and that benefits everyone involved. Before any work begins, the exact position of crossing lines and the prevailing soil conditions are inspected. Any potential issues are discussed with the general contractor, and resolved at the outset. Utilizing a specially designed all-terrain, all-weather mobile winch vehicle (Winch Crawler) the SpiderPlow is pulled forward by a cable. Because it is anchored into the ground, the Winch Crawler avoids the churning and mixing together of top soils so often associated with tracked or wheeled vehicles struggling for traction. Instead, the environmentally-sensitive SpiderPlow is pulled forward by a cable. Every leg of the SpiderPlow operates independently, which means the equipment can work easily in undulating terrain. The unique ripper and chute design displaces the soil, settling the ditch bottom with its own weight. The tip of the plow blade forms and clears the laying bed at specific depths to over eight feet. Then, using a patented guidance system, a pipe insertion unit is dragged along the bed and the pipe is inserted into the cavity with minimal risk of damage. Unlike open trenching systems, the narrow slot in the earth created by the SpiderPlow closes quickly and is easily compacted with minimal impact on the environment. A single three-man crew can install as much as three to four kilometers of pipe in a single day. |
